Why:
Me and my group were tasked with creating an effective solution for a website that contains cheap recipes for international student who are living in Eindhoven. To do this we built an interactive prototype which allowed us to test our ideas early, receive meaningful feedback, and make necessary adjustments before fully developing the website. This was crucial in crafting a product that was both user-friendly and impactful.
How:
To design the website, we brainstormed and explored various design choices. We prioritized the design to be easy on the eye as well as being intuitive, making navigation easy. Using tools like Figma, we developed an interactive prototype that mimicked the core functionalities of our website while sticking to our design ideas. This prototype was then tested with some students and teachers to get some valuable feedback.
What:
First we as a group designed 3 pages of our prototype and went for feedback where we got some valuable information. For example, we should use black for the titles of the recipes because we used black titles in other places. Doing this for the recipes as well would make it easier to read and it’s going to look more consistent. We also were advised to put the “back button” on the left instead of the right as it would make more sense on a subconscious level, other than this we also made the site pop more. Once we got the general style down, we started designing and creating all the other pages. Everyone designed some pages, for example one of the pages I made was the community events page.
Reflection:
Through this process, we gained hands-on experience in prototyping and user testing. The feedback from our testers helped us identify areas for improvement, such as increasing the consistency and readability, and enhancing the visual appeal of the site. By incorporating these changes, we refined the prototype and ensured that the final website was more intuitive and aligned with user expectations. This experience taught us the importance of prototyping in achieving a user-centered design. However, for the next time I would like to let more users test our prototype as we didn’t have many this time.
